I'm so sick of seeing people blast those that do EXACTLY what Eloh intended them to do with her skins. Shut up already. Now as far as the RAC skins go....ok you have a right to say something...unless of course the creator of RAC skins ALSO released their PSD files for FREE and stated..sell these if you want. Its getting old already. *rolls eyes*
I agree with anon 11:56. Eloh flat out said that the skins can be sold for profit and if people are modding them thats even better. If you dont remember that part then go look at her website! The RAC part of course is wrong and that should be handled. But please lay off the people that are putting some Eloh in their skins for god sakes. Hearing it over and over is getting sickening.
Since Eloh gave her permission, it's fine to resell the skins whether you mod them or not. However, it's my personal opinion that it's tacky not to acknowledge that you made your skins from her base - somewhere in the ad, the press release, or whatever. Especially when they're barely modded - you can tell at a glance that these are Another Shop mods. And frankly, I've got far nicer AS mods than these. No way would I pay 600L for them.
Well, in a way, everyone who has commented on this issue thus far is correct.
Yes, Eloh did explicitly say that people are free to resell the modified versions if they so desire.
Eloh ALSO included with the .psd files, however, these instructions:
Another skin license (covers PSDs and in-world skins) ---

Nowhere in this store or in the blog post by the store's owner did I see any language that would indicate/hint that the skins were, in fact, created by someone other than herself and that she'd simply modified them.
THAT is in direct violation of the license put forth by Eloh.
I don't think it's a big deal that people re-sell the modified skins. There are already several versions out there that - while retaining the original "feel" of the Eloh skins - have obviously been modified enough to show the individual style of the re-seller. The difference here, for me at least, is that 'nuff is re-selling these skins without the disclaimer and with the following line, pulled straight from their blog post:
"Tonight we add a new Face to our already existing Skin Line, this Line is called Honesty and is a mix out of our popular Juliette and Angel Skin."
I'm sorry, but unless you've been living under a rock in SL for the last month, there is no way you are going to look at those skins and think that they are the hybrid of 'nuff's 'other' skins and not a barely modified version of an Eloh skin. What bugs me is that the re-sellers here think everyone else is going to be stupid enough not to notice.
I've seen countless of these types of skin deals all over the grid since Eloh released her skins, most noticably in 'kid avatar' kits (where they are being sold unmodified, but that's a rant for another day.) My opinion? Yeah Eloh said to go ahead and re-sell the skins. But it'd be good form to at least acknowledge that you used her skins as a base instead of trying to claim they're your own creation with no mention of the source. Doing otherwise is just shady, especially since those skins have a pretty distinctive look to them, and unless you've done major modding, anyone will be able to tell at a glance where the skin really came from.
The RaC skin is another issue, and I hope they get nailed for it. /tsk
Melanieann, some people might not know about that license because initially there was no indication of any kind of license included. I remember looking all over to make sure this was legit when I first got them. It is why I keep revisiting Eloh's website now.
I am too lagged to check out the RaC stuff and see for myself but I am sure someone has pics by now to save me the trip.
Forgot this part: Other than the ironic name of the skin line their own announcement states: Tonight we add a new Face to our already existing Skin Line. Which would imply that they designed the skins to the unsuspecting. Not good.
Yes, the only people who would even be aware that license setup exists at all would be those who have actually downloaded the PSD files. That's the only way to get a hold of the license right now, I think.
My friend Vivienne sent Eloh an IM asking if she might create a notecard containing that license; this way, the properties will show her as the originator of it and help lend it some authenticity. If she could do that then I'm thinking of including a copy of that notecard with any modded skin I might release in the future.
Using other peoples' skins and reselling them with their permission is fine, only if (and this was mentioned before) credit is given to the original creator of the skin. This was specified by Eloh and to not state this upfront or phrase advertising that makes the unaware buyer believe the skin is entirely the sellers' creation, is misleading and fraudulent.
Everyone is in agreeance that Eloh's skins were widely known to be allowed to be resold, but Marni is precisely right in highlighting that these people don't intend to credit Eloh for her work paving their way to profits.
As long as the community continues to not buy from misleading people, and makes potential customers aware that these items are available for free from the original creator, this is another step in defeating ripoff artists. Sure we will never stop determined content thieves, but when we make it harder for them, it'll make more of them think about what they're doing and possibly stop.
The modified another skin has every right to be sold imo -- with the appropriate credit being given to the original creator as well.
I don't think it's a problem to bring it up though, or to discuss the pricing model. I've seen blog discussions about pricing on items before -- albeit generally a product of an entry rather than the entry itself but still. It's not a whole lot of work for $600L (or $2000L) and don't get why it's a problem to note that. :) Buyers can decide for themselves if it's worth it, but at least now what went into the creation.
And of course the very rac-like skins are another matter entirely...
I did a check of the E skin psd files I downloaded and there is no license in there. I still had the zip files so I rechecked and there was nothing so the license must have come after the E templates were released. The license is in the F skin templates that I have.
I have to agree... Get over it. Since Eloh did give permission then I think you're making a big tadoo about NOTHING...
Want to get pissy about something... Get pissy about the fact that they are selling those "barely modded" skins for a mint when I make my own from scratch and sell them for half of that. It's ridiculous.
Marni - Will accept review copies, and will review honestly, but reserves the right not to blog items if items are found to be inappropriate.
Eyva - Not accepting review copies, but will accept LM's. Reserves the right not to blog items if are found to be inappropriate.
It may seem complicated both of us having different policies, but review policies are your own choice. We will always endeavour to be upfront and communicative with anyone, and will always try to give you a timely response to your IM or notecard.
If you don't hear anything from either of us, sometimes we go off the radar and live free and wild, searching for inspiration in the dense jungles and scorching deserts. We drink alot during this time and frequently hallucinate we're dancing with Jim Morrison. Please feel free to prod us and ask what's up if we don't respond in a timely manner.

Why are people keep doing this, even though they know exactly they will be going through? O_O
Is this a new way to gain some attention? >3<

Why can't people grow a pair and sign their name when they comment?
I dont think it's that big of a deal that the Eloh skins are being resold - that's what they were intended for according to Eloh herself...
The RaC skins however, is a different story.

People who resell thing are quite frankly creativly reatrded.
Loving the Annoymouse comments what are we SCD fans too?
Maybe you lot are sticking up for your own guilty concouse?
Wow, RaC too? Ick. Creatively retarded indeed.
